Every year, the third Tuesday of March is celebrated as World Social Work Day. This year it was on 21 March 2023, and the theme was ‘Respecting Diversity through Joint Social Action’. To observe the day, the Department of Social Work organized a panel discussion on the same theme in Room No 215, Academic Block II, Assam Don Bosco University.

The programme witnessed the presence of Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Jose Palely, honourable Pro Vice-Chancellor, Assam Don Bosco University during the introductory session. Fr. (Dr.) Jose Palely in his message highlighted how to promote the peaceful co-existence of different cultures, ethnic, religions, gender, communities etc in our society.

The panel discussion started with a presentation by Prof. Lukose P J, Department of Social Work, Assam Don Bosco University on the main theme i.e. ‘Respecting Diversity through Joint Social Action’. Later, Mr. Ramesh Sharma, Head, Department of English gave a presentation on ‘Aesthetic reception of Diversity’ followed by ‘Governmental initiatives for Inclusive Social Transformation’ by Dr. Saurabh Chandra, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration, and ‘Role of Mass Media in promoting diversity and address the Challenges’ by Dr. Alpana Choudhury, Head, Department of Mass Communication. After all the presentations, a panel discussion was held with Dr. Subhrangshu Dhar, Head, Department of Social Work as the Moderator.
