The Department of Zoology in collaboration with Eco Club, Assam Don Bosco University organized an Interactive Session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on 29th September 2023, at the Auditorium of Academic Block I. The Speaker for this event was Ms. Dipamani Baishya, Project Scientist, Patent Information Centre, ASTEC, Guwahati.
The event began with a note of welcome by Mr. Muktar Ahmed, student of BSc 3rd Semester, followed by a speech from Dr. Prasanta Kr. Choudhury, Director, School of Life Sciences, who expressed his gratitude to the Department and the guest, and anticipating an enrichment of knowledge.
Ms. Baishya, an enthusiastic speaker, ensured the session was highly interactive. She introduced the topic and explained the importance of IPR. She elucidated the different types of IPR, namely, Patent, Trademark, Copyright, Design Registration, Geographical Indications and Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Layout Design. She also briefed about the period of the validity of each IPR and whether it can be renewed. Ms. Baishya concluded her talk with a short quiz session which was very interactive and created an enthusiasm among the participants as gifts were handed out to members of the audience who gave correct answers.
The quiz was followed by a brief speech by Prof. Saibal Sengupta and shared his outlook on the concerned subject. A token of gratitude was presented to Ms. Dipamani Baishya by Prof. Sengupta on behalf of the Department of Zoology. Dr. Jane Shangpliang, Head, Department of Zoology, expressed her appreciation towards Ms. Dipamani and presented a brief remark on the importance of IPR. The session was attended by 47 participants.
