Bosco University has teamed up with University College Dublin, Ireland for an International Student Volunteers Exchange Programme – Northeast India-14. The programme is scheduled between 14 June to 14 July 2014. The programme envisages promoting understanding of multilateral issues at the global level, enhancing the competencies of the participants, and building skills and ability to work in close collaborative social, economic, political, environmental and development concerns in the context of rapid globalization which often puts the Rights of the individuals especially those of the marginalized at stake. While the programme emphasizes the intellectual, cultural and social development of the participants, the concrete benefits of the community with whom the team members will interact will be prioritized. The team members of Assam Don Bosco University comprises of eleven members (Hadwrshri, Poji, Rupali, Netrashika, Ivy, Namita, Dupphidalin, Hazel, Camilia, Tanbeer and Hebol) accompanied by a Faculty Co-ordinator (Mr. Jacob Islary) while the team from University College Dublin will have seven members accompanied by a Manager (Ms. Caroline). The Team will engage in development activities with children, adolescents, youth, women and men of the villages in and around Deepor Beel. The programme is designed to give the participants a live experience of development process in the context of rapid globalization, urbanization and shrinkage of traditional means of livelihoods. While the participants will have theoretical inputs and workshops; application and constant engagement with the field will be emphasized. Some activities that the team will engage in are: PRA-Workshop with Practical exercises in the field, Development Support Communication Workshop with plans for products creation like grassroots comics, blogs, documentary and streetplays, Home Visits, Community Organization and Organizing Community Events with various target groups. The Student Volunteer Exchange Programme, Northeast-2014 is the first of a series of exchange programmes that are in line for the coming years especially till 2017. While the Northeast-2014 programme is organized within the project sites of Department of Social Work, Assam Don Bosco University, India; the next upcoming exchange programmes will have the Team members from Don Bosco University going experience to other countries.
