On 10th October 2023, the Department of Social Work, Assam Don Bosco University observed World Mental Health Day with a range of activities aimed at promoting mental health awareness and reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues. The theme of the year was “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right” The event comprised street plays, performances, a quiz program, and speeches, all contributing towards highlighting the theme.

Two separate groups of students organized street plays at different locations within the university premises. One group performed near Block 1. and the other group performed in the Atrium, effectively engaging the university community. The street play near Academic Block II focused on the importance of listening as part of addressing the hidden burden of mental health issues along with focusing on sensitization building. The street play inside the atrium highlighted the misconceptions on mental health issues and the need to have an accommodating environment towards it.

A quiz programme was also conducted by Mr. Bhaswab and Ms. Lavinia, Assistant Professors from the Department of Social Work. The quiz aimed to educate and test the knowledge of the attendees on mental health-related topics.

The Mental Health Day program on October 10, 2023, was a successful and enlightening event, engaging students and faculty members alike. Through various performances and activities, the event successfully raised awareness about mental health and encouraged open dialogue about the subject. The engagement of the university community in such initiatives is crucial for fostering a mentally healthy and supportive environment.
