The Institute of Pharmacy organized an International Workshop on Empowering Patients and Families: A Collaborative Approach to Palliative Care on 16 October 2023 at Tapesia Campus.

The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness for a collaborative, patient-centred approach to palliative care that respects the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of individuals facing serious illnesses and their families. Through education, skill-building, and open communication, it seeks to enhance the quality of life for those in need of palliative care support.

The first speaker, Ms. Gilly Burn, Founder and Director, Cancer Relief India, an expert in palliative care, delivered a profound talk, shedding light on the holistic approach to care, pain management, and the emotional well-being of patients and their families.

The second speaker, Dr. Preeti Sarmah, Registrar, Department of Gastroenterology, Guwahati Medical College and Hospital shared with the audience valuable insights and practical knowledge in palliative care and emphasized the evolving landscape of palliative care.

The talks were followed by showcasing of innovative poster presentations by the students, reflecting a deep understanding of palliative care concepts and practices.

The palliative care workshop was a resounding success, creating a platform for meaningful discussions, knowledge-sharing, and networking opportunity. The event not only enhanced awareness of palliative care but also fostered a spirit of collaboration among stakeholders in the healthcare community.
