International Women’s Day was celebrated at the University by various schools. At the school of Humanities and Social Sciences, students of the Department of Social Work conducted a special assembly which included recitation, dance and a prayer. The students also made a number of educational and awareness posters and displayed them at various locations in the campus. The women teachers were felicitated and a movie ‘Hidden Figures’ was shown in the afternoon.
The School of Life Sciences and Fundamental and Applied Sciences also conducted a special assembly in the morning where Ms. Pallabi Borah spoke on the roles played by women in today’s world at various levels of in the society and economics and at the same time the important role of women in a family. A group was also presented by student volunteers.
This year’s theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Break the Bias’, which is calling for a world where difference if valued and celebrated, where there is equality for women.
