The Assam Don Bosco University activated its new Local Area Network with effect from Friday 6 pm, 6th September 2013.

“This LAN now brings the University within the National Knowledge Network (NKN), a project of the ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India,” said ADBU Registrar Dr Basil Koikara briefing the University Community.

“Two years ago, we were one of the first educational establishments in the country to sign up a ten year contract for this national knowledge grid,” said Vice Chancellor Dr Stephen Mavely.

The ten year subscription then cost Rs.22.5 lakhs (USD450,000) only.

“The access to the LAN is now authenticated through individual login,” said Dr Koikara warning that “all should avoid all illegal, illicit or improper use of the university internet facility.”

He further informed that “the current system keeps logs of each user, connecting websites visited, and downloads.”

Other value added services this LAN can provide includes: Moodle (the Learning Management Tool for Aptitude Tests), Spoken Tutorials (learn a number of software free), and ADBU Library OPAC (Online Public Access System),

The Director of ADBU Computer Operations Mr Vijay Prasad along with Mr Manoj Das and his team from ADBU Computer Lab facilitated the painstaking work to implement the LAN and the switchover.
