The 4th of February is observed as Cancer Awareness Day worldwide. To mark this day, the Department of Biosciences organised a scientific talk on the topic” Understanding Cancer-Molecular Perspectives, detection and treatment” with Dr Rizwana Sultana as the Speaker. Dr. Sultana is a Scientist C, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Barpeta, Assam, an eminent expert and researcher in the field of Cancer Biology.
Dr Prasanta Kumar Choudhury , Director , School of Life Science felicitated the resource person and the resource person was introduced to the audience by Dr. Probin Phanjom, Head, Department of the Biosciences. The scientific talk delved into two sections- Molecular basis of Cancer and Cancer Management. Dr Sultana explained the various types of Cancer, its possible causative factors, treatment, as well as the preventive steps related with food habits and life style. The talk focused to create a general understanding of Cancer Biology to the student community.
The programme was attended by faculty and students from Biosciences, Botany and Zoology. The total number of participants was 75. This was followed by a Cancer Awareness Campaign by the students of M.Sc Biosciences within the University Campus by displaying scientific posters and placards.
