On the occasion of the ‘Great Backyard Bird Count’, eBird’s International Event, ‘Campus Bird Count’, India’s Sub-event, the Department of Zoology in collaboration with EcoClub organized a Campus Bird Count 6.0 on 17th February, 2023 at Tapesia Campus.

The event started at 6:30 am and was conducted under the expertise of Dr. Nilutpal Mahanta, State Associate, Trees outside Forest of India Program, CIFOR-ICRAF who has been closely associated with the University’s bird count event and updating checklists at the eBird portal for the University since 2018. Dr. Mahanta was accompanied by two other bird researchers Ms. Taniya Talwar and Ms. Sakshi Pathak from Seven Waves Organization.

A total of 60 students and three faculty members participated in the event. 35 species of birds including Slender-billed Oriole, Ashy Woodswallow, Hair-crested Drongo, Yellow-bellied Warbler, Greater Cucal, Oriental Turtle Dove, Asian Fairy-bluebird were observed during the event adding to its already documented count of 89 checklists available at the eBird portal for the University.
