Guwahati, October 10, 2013: The department of Psychological Counseling organized the World Mental Health Day in the School of Social Sciences at Assam Don Bosco University, Azara campus this morning. Participants included students from the
departments of Masters in Social Work (MSW), Educational Leadership (MEL) and Psychological Counseling (MPC).
MPC student Francis Sailo compared the morning assembly held at the Social Work department along with his batch mates. Besides a brief speech on the Mental Health situation today, there was a video clip showing the difficulties of senior citizens addressed as ‘your dad, your mom,’ who needs care just as much as ‘they cared for you when you were a baby’. The celebrations ended with a song dedicated to grand parents.
Every year on 10th of October, the World Health Organization keeps the World Mental Health Day established since 1992. The day is celebrated at the initiative of the World Federation of Mental Health and the United Nation’s World Health Organization supports this initiative through raising awareness on mental health issues.
The theme of the day in 2013 is “Mental health and older adults.”
